Rent a Car at Bali Airport (DPS)

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) on Bali is approximately 13 km south of Kuta and 25 km from Ubud, roughly 20–45 minutes' drive. Two car rental companies are located at the airport for direct car pick-up. From DPS it's approximately 13 km to Kuta Beach, 25 km to Ubud rice fields and 75 km to Lovina Beach in the north.

Seminyak and Canggu are located 15–20 km north along the coast and are popular with long-term travelers. Book a car without a driver only if you're used to chaotic traffic and left-hand driving – Bali's roads in the Kuta area are intense. For Ubud and northern Bali, a car is excellent; for Seminyak and Kuta a scooter is sufficient.

Avoid driving during Nyepi (silent day) when all traffic on Bali is prohibited. How long does it take to drive from DPS to Ubud? Approximately 25 km and normally 45–70 minutes via the Bypass Ngurah Rai and Jalan Raya Ubud depending on traffic.

Can I take the rental car by ferry to Lombok? Possible but requires the rental company's written permission. The Padang Bai–Lembar ferry takes approximately 4–5 hours.

Is it safe to drive a rental car on Bali as an inexperienced driver? Bali has intense traffic and narrow roads. Consider a chauffeur-driven car (driver included) if you're unfamiliar with Asian traffic or left-hand driving.
