Ischigualasto is best visited early in the morning to avoid midday heat and tour buses. Consider combining your visit with Talampaya National Park, approximately 200 km north. How long does the drive from San Juan to Valle de la Luna take?

It's approximately 80 km north along RN40 and takes roughly 1 hour by car. Can I drive to Mendoza and return the car there? This depends on the rental company – one-way rentals between San Juan and Mendoza are possible with some operators but often involve an additional fee.

Are the roads to the national park paved? RN40 northbound is largely paved, but the final kilometers to Ischigualasto may be unpaved and require careful driving.
