Always rent a car with high ground clearance or 4WD in the late dry season (October) when some roads may be damaged by monsoons. Always fill up your tank in Jabiru – there are no gas stations along most park roads. Start your excursions early in the morning to avoid midday heat and see wildlife at waterholes.

Do I need 4WD to drive in Kakadu National Park? The main roads in Kakadu are paved and accessible with a standard car. However, more remote locations such as Jim Jim Falls (80 km south of Jabiru) require 4WD, especially during the late dry season.

How long does it take to drive from Jabiru to Darwin? Darwin is 257 km west of Jabiru via Arnhem Highway. The drive normally takes 2 hours and 45 minutes, but allow extra time during the wet season (November–April).
