Sandspit Airport (YZP) Car Rental (YZP)

Sandspit Airport (YZP) is the primary airport for the Haida Gwaii island group in British Columbia, located on Moresby Island. With 1 rental company on site, a rental car is the best way to explore this remote and scenic destination. The airport is 3 km from Sandspit settlement and 12 km via ferry from Queen Charlotte City.

Haida Gwaii is sometimes called the 'Galapagos of the North' for its unique flora and fauna. Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is reached by boat from Moresby Island and offers pristine nature and historic Haida village sites. Sandspit is the starting point for nature experiences in one of Canada's most isolated regions.

Book the rental car well in advance - with only 1 company on the island, availability is very limited. Plan for the ferry crossing over Skidegate Inlet (15 minutes) to reach Graham Island and Queen Charlotte City. Allow extra time in your schedule - the road network on Haida Gwaii is limited and roads can be in varying condition.

How do I get from Sandspit Airport to Queen Charlotte City? Drive 3 km to Sandspit settlement, then take the ferry across Skidegate Inlet (15 min) and drive another 5 km to Queen Charlotte City. Why is a rental car important on Haida Gwaii?

Public transportation is very limited on the islands, and a rental car is the only practical way to explore the Graham Island and Moresby Islands road network. What can I see on Haida Gwaii with a rental car? Neem'a Cultural Centre, Tow Hill Ecological Reserve, Agate Beach, and departure points for boat tours to Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve.
