About Renting a Car at Dubrovnik Airport
Croatia has become one of Europe's hottest car rental vacation destinations, which means prices at Dubrovnik Airport rise sharply from June to August. Book early for the best price. Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is the region's largest rental hub with 35 rental companies - the best option if you want a car ready when you land.
Many travelers combine it with a trip to Split. The airport is located in Čilipi, 22 km south of the old town, and takes approximately 30-40 minutes to drive depending on traffic. With a car from the airport, you avoid expensive taxi rides and complicated bus transfers.
The airport is surrounded by the Konavle Valley, one of Croatia's most unspoiled agricultural regions with traditional villages and vineyards. The village of Čilipi is known for its Sunday folk dances in national dress during summer. From here, it's 15 minutes to the seaside resort of Cavtat and 30 minutes to Dubrovnik's old town via the motorway.
Book a car online in advance - with 35 rental companies, price competition is high and you can save up to 40% compared to booking on-site. Choose a vehicle with air conditioning; summer heat in Dubrovnik often exceeds 35°C. Return the car with a full tank - the gas station in Čilipi is 2 km from the airport.
How long does it take to drive from Dubrovnik Airport to the old town? It takes 30-40 minutes, approximately 22 km via the E65 motorway and then toward the Pile Gate. Is car rental open 24/7 at Dubrovnik Airport?
Most major rental companies are open during all of the airport's operating hours, but check exact times if you're arriving late. Can I pick up a car at Dubrovnik Airport and return it in Split? Yes, one-way rental is possible but involves an extra charge.
Split is approximately 220 km to the north and takes 3-3.5 hours.
We compare prices from all major providers at Dubrovnik Airport so you can see the total cost upfront - including insurance, fuel terms and any extras. Most bookings include free cancellation up to 48 hours before pickup, giving you flexibility if your plans change.
