Car Rental at Ishigaki Airport (ISG)

Ishigaki Airport (ISG) is the gateway to the Yaeyama Islands in southern Okinawa and offers 5 rental agencies directly in the terminal. With a rental car, you can quickly reach Kabira Bay 20 km to the north, or Yonehara coral reef in 25 minutes. The island's compact size - approximately 60 km around - makes a car the most convenient way to explore.

Ishigaki is the most populated island in the Yaeyama archipelago and surrounded by crystal-clear waters with world-class snorkeling. The airport is located in the northern part of the island, approximately 15 km from Ishigaki city. From here you can take a ferry to the neighboring islands Iriomote and Taketomi, with the terminal 20 minutes to the south.

Rent a car upon arrival - demand is high during summer and vehicles sell out quickly. Kabira Bay is most beautiful early in the morning before tour buses arrive. Left-hand driving applies throughout Japan - practice in the parking lot before heading into traffic.

How long does it take to drive around the entire Ishigaki? A coastal loop is approximately 60 km and takes 2-3 hours without stops, but allow a full day if you stop at beaches and viewpoints. Can I take the rental car on the ferry to Iriomote?

No, cars are generally not permitted on ferries to neighboring islands. Park on Ishigaki and rent a separate vehicle on Iriomote if needed. Which rental agencies are at Ishigaki Airport?

There are 5 agencies at the airport, including Toyota Rent a Car and Orix. Shuttles to the rental offices depart from the arrivals hall.
